Abstract: Magnetic activity of stars is associated with generation of strong magnetic fields in the depths of the stellar convective zones. One manifestation is occurrence of spots on the stellar surface. Dynamo effect plays a key role in generation and evolution of the stellar magnetic field. Dynamo mechanism usually considered involves interplay of two ingredients (dynamo sources): the alpha-effect and differential rotation. Dominant dynamo sources can be located at different depths (active layers) of the convection zone and have different amplitudes. We propose a dynamical system for the dynamo sources. Its behavior sensitively depends on meridional flows and thickness of the convective zone. We obtain different regimes of magnetic field generation depending on amplitudes of the alpha-effect, differential rotation, meridional fluxes and thickness of the convective zone.
