Abstract: Understanding how galaxies form has always been a major focus of cosmological research. While the growth of dark matter halos is well understood within the standard ΛCDM cosmology, the challenge is the astrophysical one of following the diffuse gas within these haloes and understanding its transmutation into stars. Simulations show that“feedback processes” such as stellar or AGN-driven winds have a significant impact on star formation and on the overall distribution and physical state of diffuse gas. I will show recent results from several variants of the Simba hydrodynamic simulation on the impact of stellar/AGN feedback processes on the distribution of various baryonic phases in halos and in the intergalactic medium. I will also discuss the impact of such processes on star formation history.
