Title: Cosmic Shear Analysis from Images to Cosmology
Date (JST): Thu, Jul 06, 2023, 11:00 - 12:00
Place: Seminar Room A
Abstract: Cosmic shear, a small but coherent distortion in distant galaxy images, provides an important avenue for cosmological constraints. Recent galaxy surveys, however, have found discrepancies in the $S_8$ value - a measure of the clumpiness of the universe - when compared with results from Planck's cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements. This deviation may hint at a possible inconsistency in our understanding of the universe's standard model, the $\Lambda$CDM. As we anticipate future observations to increase both the observed area and galaxy number density, the challenge lies in controlling systematic errors to levels below statistical ones. This presentation will delve into cosmic shear analysis, from galaxy image to the final cosmological constraints. Moreover, we will explore the recent development in deriving shear measurements from galaxy images and discuss prospective improvement for future cosmic shear analyses.
