Abstract: Within the free fermionic classification methodology of Z2 × Z2 heterotic strings, different avenues towards non-supersymmetric models are discussed. Some aspects of classifying asymmetric models are discussed, in particular the relation of moduli fixing to obtaining certain desirable phenomenological criteria. We explain the methodology that allows for the analysis of the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term and the one-loop potential for such models, first for symmetric Z2 x Z2 orbifolds and then how this can be extended to the asymmetric case in which some internal moduli are fixed. We show examples of Z2 x Z2 non-supersymmetric symmetric orbifolds that exhibit a D-term uplift of their one-loop potential. We demonstrate this for models both in which the SUSY is broken spontaneously via Scherk-Schwarz breaking and explicitly.
