| Title: | Gravitational instantons, CP asymmetry and axion physics |

| Abstract: | I will describe how the non-trivial topology of curved spacetime induces quantum tunnelling between vacuum states that profoundly affect the properties and interactions of elementary particles. Namely, I will argue that gravitational instantons cause additional charge-parity (CP) violation in the standard model and enforce the electric charge quantisation without introducing monopoles. I also discuss how the standard axion solution to the strong CP problem is compromised and propose companion axion model as a genuine dynamical solution. Some phenomenological and cosmological aspects of the companion axion model will also be discussed. |
