Abstract: One of the most difficult problems in geometry and physics is the computation of higher genus Gromov-Witten invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds. During last several years, a tremendous progress has been made in this direction, including the proof of a series of outstanding conjectures such as BCOV conjectures and Castelnuovo bound. With our new found power, it is natural that we want to attack some new problems.
In this talk, I will first review the progress on the computation of higher genus Gromov-Witten invariants. Then, I will describe a mysterious conjecture from physics known as black hole entropy conjecture regarding asymptotic value of Gromov-Witten invariants when both degree and genus goes to infinity.
