In the talk, I will present the derivation we follow in the recent paper (2401.14449) to prove the weak gravity conjecture in perturbative string theory. After a brief review of the motivation and evidence for various forms of the WGC, I will delve into the details, describing the main steps of our strategy. We polish and refine results that had previously appeared in the literature, as well as provide new ones. Combining these, we are able to give a comprehensive proof of the WGC in string theory at a perturbative level. While the derivation presented is specific to the bosonic string, though we expect the results to hold in general. |
