Title: Large Scale Structure -- Cosmic Flows
Date (JST): Wed, Oct 02, 2013, 14:00 - 15:30
Place: Seminar Room A
Abstract: 20 years ago, Cosmic Flows was an active research field. However it ended as a topic of research when two methods did not agree on conclusions. Since that time the data has recently improved, justifying another look. The velocity field generated by the galaxy distribution out to 10,000 km/s explains our dipole velocity of 640 km/s and the peculiar velocity of every other galaxy. This talk will be instructive for the younger students who are not familiar with 20 years of research, and for the other old-timers, it is quite beautiful to see how well linear theory fits the observed velocity field.
