Abstract: Despite the large number of observed SN events, their progenitor stars are still not very well constrained. There have been detections of SN progenitor systems in pre-explosion Hubble Space Telescope images, but these are still rare and it is difficult to increase the statistics with this method due to the limited availability of suitable pre-explosion images. Alternatively, one may perform statistical studies on the SN environments to derive useful constraints on the SN progenitor star. In this talk I will describe our current effort studying SN environments and progenitors with integral field spectroscopy, using most of the world's top integral field spectrographs including GMOS, VIMOS, and AO-assisted SINFONI, as well as the new-generation VLT instrument MUSE.
