Abstract: Historically, the holographic principle emerged from trying to reconcile evaporating black holes with unitarity. AdS/CFT provides a concrete implementation of holography within string theory. However, the way AdS/CFT works makes it plausible that holographic correspondences could also exist between non-unitary quantum theories of gravity and non-unitary quantum field theories, see for instance the recent work by Vafa, 1409.1603. I summarize the status of a concrete realization of this idea, the AdS_3/log CFT_2 correspondence reviewed in 1302.0280.
