Abstract: MaNGA (Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO, PI: Kevin Bundy) is a new, ongoing IFU survey that aims to observe 10.000 galaxies during the next 6 years as part of the SDSS-IV collaboration. In this talk I will give a general introduction to the survey and its science goals, with a focus on the observing strategy and the daily operations. I will show some of the logistical challenges that a large survey faces and the tools we have developed in MaNGA and the SDSS collaboration to address them.
