Abstract: Radio galaxies produce the most energetic phenomena in the Universe. They are associated with giant elliptical galaxies hosting the most massive black holes (<10^{8} solar masses). In the local Universe the optical classification of radio galaxies reflect a clearer separation in nuclear and host properties than that based on the radio morphology. I will summarize my past results on local radio galaxies which show global evidence for co-evolution of black holes and host galaxies. I will discuss on the new class of radio galaxies named FR0 which seem to be the dominant radio population in the local Universe. Furthermore, our knowledge on local radio galaxies provides the key to understand the properties of distant radio galaxies (0.7 < z < 3) selected in the COSMOS field, paying much attention on the low-luminosity AGN.
