Title: Surface defects as transfer matrices
Date (JST): Tue, Feb 16, 2016, 13:15 - 14:45
Place: Seminar Room A
Abstract: I will explain how the supersymmetric indices for a certain class of 4d N=1 theories can be mapped, via topological quantum field theories, to the partition functions of integrable lattice models in statistical mechanics. In this correspondence, half-BPS surface defects are mapped to transfer matrices. For a special case I will identify these transfer matrices, and discuss their connections with the XYZ spin chain and difference operators found in the context of class-S and -S_k theories. This talk is based on my work [arXiv:1504.04055] and work in progress with Kazunobu Maruyoshi.
