Abstract: Our lack of knowledge of the dark matter distribution in the local neighborhood introduces significant uncertainties in the interpretation of data from dark matter direct detection experiments. I will discuss the local dark matter distribution of Milky Way-like galaxies extracted from the high resolution EAGLE and APOSTLE hydrodynamic simulations. To make reliable predictions for direct detection searches, we identify simulated haloes which satisfy the Milky Way observational constraints. I will present an analysis of direct detection data using directly the local dark matter density and velocity distribution of the selected Milky Way analogues.
