Abstract: The AdS/CFT correspondence allows one to describe situations where general relativity fails in terms of a dual quantum field theory. In the lecture I will describe recent work with Craps and Hertog describing a 4d cosmology through its holographic dual. Quantum effects in the dual theory appear to resolve the cosmological singularity, leading to a bounce from big crunch to big bang. A natural non-inflationary mechanism for producing realistic density erturbations emerges in this picture.
