Abstract: AdS/CFT provides an exact description of quantum gravity in asymptotically Anti de Sitter spacetimes, in terms of a dual local quantum field. It is an important problem to understand how the bulk gravitational physics emerges from the boundary dynamics. Certain bulk IR constraints, such as the black hole information paradox, appear to obstruct the existence of a linear map from bulk operators to exact CFT operators that is valid over the entire expected range of the bulk effective theory.By formulating the bulk physics in the Hartle-Hawking framework to address these nonperturbative IR questions, I will explain that the problematic operators fail to be nonperturbatively diffeomorphism invariant. In this way, there can exist a linear map between the full bulk effective theory Hilbert space and the exact CFT Hilbert space.
