Abstract: We discuss smooth Calabi-Yau categories C and their deformations, and sketch a proof that the dg Lie algebra controlling Calabi-Yau deformations of C identifies with shifted negative cyclic chains of C, while the dg Lie algebra controlling Calabi-Yau deformations with trivial period map identifies with shifted cyclic chains. If time permits, I explain how this allows us to compute Poisson brackets between certain canonical Hamiltonians on the moduli space of objects in C. In particular, this allows us to describe a derived Hitchin system for Higgs complexes. This is joint work in progress with N. Rozenblyum.
