Abstract: The effective theory of topological in terms of a topological field theory will be reviewed, with special emphasis on the connection to notions familiar to particle physicists such as the chiral anomaly.
This approach will allow us to propose an effective theory of fractional topological insulators which, unlike the ordinary topological insulators, rely on strong interactions between the electrons.
