Abstract: We consider sets equipped with a symmetric binary relation, which we call locality sets. As we shall see, this very simple notion of locality set is ubiquitous in mathematics and physics and has far reaching consequences. The algebra of meromorphic germs in several variables with linear poles, which arises in mathematics and quantum field theory in various disguises, can be equipped with a locality relation. We investigate their rich structures under the prism of locality, including locality subalgebras, locality transformation groups and locality characters.
We study a class of locality characters on algebras of meromorphic germs with linear poles, called generalised evaluators after Speer. We introduce a transformation group we call locality Galois group, which acts transitively on generalised evaluators by composition, thus providing a candidate for a renormalisation group in this multivariable approach.
