Title: The Buddha's Four Lessons for Scientists
Date (JST): Wed, Jul 19, 2023, 15:30 - 17:00
Place: Lecture Hall
Abstract: What is the world? How do human beings know the world? This lecture will discuss
how the earliest form of Buddhism, which I call “Early Buddhism,” answered these
questions. Early Buddhism rejects the Creator such as God in Christianity, and natural
law such as the Dao in Confucianism and Taoism. Nor is it humanism, based on the
belief that human beings have supreme value. Such thought of Early Buddhism seems
interesting to even modern scientists. In this talk, I will briefly introduce my research
methods of elucidating Early Buddhism and then discuss its thoughts of space and cognition.
