Title: The development of CPU for the supercomputer
Date (JST): Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 15:30 - 17:00
Place: Lecture Hall
Abstract: Supercomputers are powerful, high-performing computer systems. CPUs are the most important components and manufactured with the most advanced semiconductor technology at that time. In addition to that, CPUs are designed with various architectures, which define how the CPU is organized and how it executes instructions. I will describe some architecture examples, especially some microarchitectures which utilize ILP (Instruction Level Parallelism) to increase the instruction execution speed. Now almost all of the top 10 supercomputers are built with CPUs and Accelerators. Accelerators play a more important role. I will discuss the current supercomputing landscape and the challenges in the future.
