I review the current understanding of the stochastic(-δN) formalism from the perspective of open quantum systems, clarifying their probabilistic structures, including non-Markovian features, and elucidating the conceptual stance of different mathematical methods for computing curvature perturbations. As concrete examples, we (1) apply the stochastic-δN formalism to a system consisting of a curvaton and an inflaton, and (2) perform full numerical simulations for the MSSM flat potential and the λϕ⁴ model by simultaneously solving the Langevin equations for IR modes and the equations of motion for UV modes.
