Flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) transitions of the top quark are a clear sign of new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). Since the operation of the LHC, there have been several searches carried out by ATLAS and CMS for such phenomena involving a photon, gluon, Z or Higgs bosons. Due to the smallness of these rates and the overwhelming nature of the backgrounds, experimental collaborations employed intelligent methods to disentangle the signal from the backgrounds. Thanks to their efforts, top quark FCNC branching ratios as small as 10^{-5} are already ruled out. In this talk, I will review the status of these searches and discuss future prospects with even more advanced methods like graph neural networks or self-attention transformers.
