Kahler-Einstein manifolds are complex manifolds of constant Ricci curvature (solutions to the complex analogue of Einstein’s gravitational equations), e.g. Calabi-Yau spaces. While the subject has a rich history, recent developments have revealed deeper connections with algebraic geometry (e.g., K-stability), non-archimedean geometry, and arithmetic among others. In this colloquium-style talk, we give a general introduction to the big picture of these interactions with a personal emphasis.
