Abstract: In the holographic construction of the 4 dimensional pure Yang-Mills theory through D4 brane (holographic QCD), it has been widely believed that the AdS soliton/black D4 brane transition would correspond to the confinement/deconfinement transition in the gauge theory. However we find several disagreements in this correspondence. Alternatively, we propose that a Gregory-Laflamme type transition, which arises in the AdS soliton, would correspond to the confinement/deconfinement transition. We also show that the chiral symmetry breaking/restoration transition in the Sakai-Sugimoto model would be explained based on our proposal.
