Abstract: Cosmic strings arise in many particle physics theories beyond the Standard Model. In theories which admit strings, a scaling network of strings will form in a symmetry breaking phase transition in the early universe and will persist to the present time. Searching for signatures of cosmic strings in cosmological observations thus provides a way to constrain particle physics models at energy scales much higher than those which can be explored in terrestrial experiments. I will discuss signatures of string in new observational windows such as CMB polarization and 21cm redshift surveys.
