Symplectic cohomology is an important invariant of Liouville domains, a natural class of symplectic manifold. Although less widely known, symplectic cohomology is, in a precise sense, the natural replacement for quantum cohomology for non-compact symplectic manifolds. I'll begin by giving an overview of its foundations following Seidel's survey article "A Biased View of Symplectic Cohomology" as well as some classical applications to Lagrangian embedding problems. Then, I'll explain the importance of this invariant for local mirror symmetry, and in doing so, describe some natural conjectures concerning the symplectic cohomology of affine varieties which would be a consequence of mirror symmetry. |
