Abstract: More than 20 years ago Cecotti and Vafa proposed a method to compute exact results in N=2 supersymmetric theories by performing "fusion" of their topologically twisted versions. Around the same time Witten's pioneering work on gauged linear sigma models (GLSM) provided a simple yet very powerful tool to analyze Calabi-Yau (CY) varieties at different points of their (stringy) moduli space. Recent progress in supersymmetric localization allows us to compute topological invariants and geometric objects associated to CYs by considering Witten's GLSM in a similar setup than the one proposed by Cecotti and Vafa. I will give an overview of the subject and its connections with mathematics. In particular, I will report on recent results obtained in joint work with K. Hori.
