| Abstract: | This is the first of three *self-contained* lectures on Lorentzian geometry and the singularity theorems in general relativity. This first lecture begins with a comparison of Riemannian and Lorentzian geometry, followed by an overview of causal theory on Lorentzian manifolds. No previous knowledge is assumed; I will also distribute lecture notes after the talk to those who are interested. |
