Abstract: Lefschetz fibrations give a simple way of constructing open symplectc manifolds. In particular, one can obtain "empty" versions of symplectic manifolds without any compact exact Lagrangians, and with Floer theory either trivial or well-controlled. This indicates that the world of open symplectic manifolds is quite wild, but just how wild remains unclear. I will outline some of these constructions and computations in wrapped Fukaya category and symplectic homology of the resulting manifolds.
