Abstract: In quantum field theory, if we do not use or if we do not know a regularization which preserves a symmetry under consideration, the construction of the corresponding Noether current as a composite operator is generally a non-trivial problem. A typical and physically relevant example of this sort is the energy-momentum tensor—the Noether current associated with the infinitesimal translational invariance—in lattice field theory. In this talk, I will present a new approach to this sort of problem on the basis of the so-called Yang-Mills gradient flow. In this approach, one constructs a universal formula of the energy—momentum tensor for instance which is independent of the regularization. Some non-pertubative application of the universal formula to lattice QCD is also presented.
