Abstract: We study the way of evaluating the WIMP-nucleon scattering cross sections, which are relevant to the direct detection of WIMP dark matter, based on the method of effective field theories. It is found that although the effective interactions of WIMP dark matter with gluon are induced at loop-level, their contribution can be comparable to the quark contribution. Then, we apply the method to some particular dark matter scenarios; pure bino dark matter, pure wino dark matter in the high-scale SUSY scenario, and the first KK photon dark matter in the minimal universal extra-dimensional model. We have found that there exists a sizable difference between previous results and ours, which originates from lacks of dominant contributions in previous calculations.
