Abstract: In this talk, I will describe the nature of the electroweak phase
transition in two particular extensions to the standard model and the
consequent implications on cosmology. The first model is a Born-Infeld
extension of the hypercharge gauge field which allows for the existence of
finite energy electroweak monopoles, the production of which can lead to a
delayed, stronger EWPT and a new scenario for electroweak baryogenesis. The
second model is the incorporation of spontaneously broken scale invariance
due to which, the EWPT is triggered at low temperatures by the QCD chiral
phase transition.
