Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce a series of two dimensional singularities and the McKay correspondence which is a correspondence between the Geometry (resolution of singularities) and the Algebra (group representations). It was originally observed by John McKay in 1979 and developed in Algebraic Geometry.
Around 1985, the similar correspondence in dimension three appeared in the Super String Theory and it was related with the classification theory of algebraic varieties. I would like to explain the generalized McKay correspondence, the influence in Mathematics and the recent developments.
Remarks: The colloquium was given using slides (posted) and then using a blackboard for the remaining.
