Abstract: This talk describes my personal journey in the search for a non-biased determination of dark energy properties (if such a thing exists). I will introduce the use of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) in theoretical cosmology, and describe how its potential can be improved by simple analytical calculations and a few statistical tricks.
